Suppose a person is registered as a Democrat in the USA. However, he has always voted for ONLY Republicans in every election for years. He also holds various views consistent with the Republican platform as opposed to the Democratic plank (like being against abortion and the like)...frankly there is nothing in this person's words or deeds that is consistent with being a Democrat. He dislikes Bil Clinton and thinks he should have been removed from office by the senate during the impeachment trial. He despises the views of Al Gore, Tom Daschle etc. You get the picture.
2 questions.

1) Is it not foolish to call this person a Democrat, even if he insists on calling himself one (based on his registration).

2) Is it not MORE foolish to look to this person as representative of ALL Democrats and as an example of how a Democrat votes or believes.

My point is labels are meaningless..actions matter.

Christianity is attacked often on the atrocities of the past done either in the name of Christ, a church or by professing Christians.

Shouldn't we judge Christianity on what it tells us to do and not what others decide to do, when those decisions are inconsistent with the teachings of Jesus or other Bible passages?

People claim the Christians owned and abused slaves in America. Why? Just because they attended church or called themselves Christians?

Then what of the Christians who fought to free slaves in this country, who preached loudly against the evil institution - those men and women who acted CONSISTENT with the teachings found in the Bible? They are the Christians in word and deed.

Church history is not the same as Christian history, if you now know what I mean.

Hi,
Excellent Point!!
<<Church history is not the same as Christian history, if you now know what I mean. >>

And notice how Christians are always Stereotyped and reported on for Alleged bad things. But these same people Never acknowledge the good and the Life Change that occurs in the Billions of Christians. Also people are choosing select Bible quotes and a self perceived interpretation as a means of Justifying their Belief that Christianity is wrong.

It is convenient to set up a strawman and Call a drunk a poor Christian, and then Call oneself a better person then the Christian. But again they choose not to compare themselves with Billy Graham, Mother Teresa and most importantly with Jesus.

The Church has to stop taking the Blame for ever act done by people who the Media calls a Christian.

God Bless You,
Your Brother in Christ,
David

Truly, in the end the Church IS Christ, and CHRIST IS SPOTLESS.
In the meantime the Church is FOR SINNERS, so that they may be healed. As much as those sinners are Christian, so much so are they pure.

But everybody wants a quick fix. The actual idea of a Christianity where all you did was say, "I love Jesus!" and "POP!" you're perfect, is so ridiculous on the very surface, yet of course, the mentality that bashes Christianity is famous for NOT THINKING.

We must all fight against the culture we live in right now, full of stereotypes and labels. Thanks for this post.

Walk in the light!

Sincerely,
